For National History Day fair, we chose the topic “The Wright Brothers” for our topic. Since an early age in our lives, we have had a keen interest in aviation, and how it came to be. We both have read many books about the Wright Brothers and studied them in the past, so we were ready to take on a full project about them. We also wanted to know how the Wright Brothers created the first flying machine in history, so this was the perfect topic for us.
For our topic, it was fairly easy to conduct our research. We used a couple of online resources and categorized the information into separate significant sections, based on importance. We also had a few brochures at our disposal that explained the history of aviation, the people who were involved, and a quick guide on how airplanes worked. There are also many books about the Wright Brothers. We found many different kinds of biographies and informative guides about the brothers and their lives.
We decided to create an online website for our project because it was very easy to use and collaborate on together. We didn't have to meet up every now and then and work on a poster board, for example. Instead, we just went online, logged onto our website, and started adding information. Our project was designed by separating each section of importance by time. This way, we can explain everything that is important about the Wright Brothers, but at the same time, explain it in a chronologically enhanced order.
Our topic relates to the National History Day theme “Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events” because the Wright Brothers began a new era in history, the era of flying. They made a very large impact on people all over the world, just because of breaking the human bond with Earth. Ever since they had introduced the possibilities and concepts of flight to the world, more and more people began to get involved with air travel. In addition to their great success, the Wright Brothers had also began a brand new industry, that would, in the future, be worth billions of dollars.
